第 1 节 如何找到自己真正热爱的事业

我刚开始工作的时候，每天下午4:30就下班了，但我还是觉得度日如年。工作的时候我没什么精神，总时不时地看表，巴不得时间过得快一些，老做白日梦。每次去洗手间我都会磨磨蹭蹭很久，甚至有时候还会在里面打个盹。

其实，我当时在一家不错的玩具公司工作，负责为孩子们设计玩具，工作内容很有趣，也富有挑战性。我的老板很优秀，同事们也都很有才华。只不过我觉得不太适合我。

现在，我才真正拥有了自己热爱的事业。比起原来，现在的我充满活力，做事无比专注，即便遇到困难也能够保持积极向上。从我自己的这段经历中，我有六条关于追寻热情的真理可以和大家分享一下。

1)作为年轻人，如果你感到迷茫，记住你不是一个人。你现在刚参加工作，以往的经历真的足够让你知道自己真正热爱的工作是什么吗？现实就是你现在阅历尚浅，还无法做出正确的长期职业生涯决策。

2)发现自己没兴趣的事比发现自己感兴趣的事更容易。说实话，你最开始选择某份工作是没有经过深思熟虑的，你对自己的特点、这份工作和这个行业都不甚了解，促使你做出决定的不过是一些表面因素。也就难怪大多数人会发现最开始的一两份工作并不适合自己。

3)适合与否都是相对的。如果你给10个人相同的工作offer，他们会做出不同的决定。也许会出现两个、六个、八个或者甚至十个人都接受或是拒绝这份offer的情况。不论是哪种情况，我们都无法断言他们所做的决定是对是错、是好是坏。因为你选择什么样的工作和你的性格、兴趣、看重的东西都有很大关系。所以虽然这些外部因素，比如薪水、职位、工作内容以及你的同事很重要，你得优先考虑内部条件，比如如果你想要一份适合自己的工作，你自己最在意什么。

4)仅仅靠想是找不到答案的。想要找到自己热爱的事业，你要勇于尝试自己以前没有接触过的事物。这样你才能了解自己真正想要从事什么类型的工作。同样，要去和从事这项工作的人交流一下。问一下他们对于自己工作的看法——他们喜欢这份工作的哪一方面？不喜欢哪一方面？每天的工作是什么样的？他们觉得最具有挑战性的是什么？他们觉得发展前景如何？通过从他人那里了解真实情况，可以节省你许多时间，也能够避免你日后感觉失望。

5)那些如果你没有放手去做会让你抱憾终生的事情。在职业生涯中，你会遇到各种困难和挑战。你可能会犯错误，感到心灰意冷。但是如果你决定追逐挚爱的事业，那就全力以赴，不论以后会发生什么，尝试过总比你从来没有迈出这一步要好得多。

6)职业发展是一段旅程！大多数人的事业发展道路都不是一帆风顺的。事实往往恰恰相反，事业之路蜿蜒崎岖，你需要到达下一个拐点才能看到前面的路。最重要的是要走在正确的道路上。

你要享受这段旅程。我花了七年的时间才找到自己热衷的事业。期间我曾就读于商学院，在一家消费品跨国公司实习，在一家顶级电脑公司工作，还加入过一家刚成立不久的咨询公司，最终我创办了自己的公司。尽管这些经历看上去都没有什么联系，但正是它们让我一步步坚持走了20多年。

关于我的旅程呢，我现在仍在继续。我仍旧喜欢经营我的猎头公司，致力于帮助中国精英们获得职业成功。我仍旧想要做到出类拔萃。以及不论以后的日子会带来什么样的挑战和回报，我都翘首以待。我希望你也能够享受自己的追寻热情之路！

Actually,Iwaspartofagreatindustry(thetoyindustry),hadaninterestingjob(designingtoysforkids),hadagreatboss,andworkedwithgreatcolleagues.Unfortunately,beinganengineerjustwasn'ttherightfitforme.

Today,asatalentindustryprofessional,IdowhatIdowithpurposeanddedication.I'mmoreenergeticnowthanIeverwaswhenIwasyounger,evenduringdifficulttimes.Sohowdidthisdramatictransformationhappen?Frommyownexperience,Icansharesixfundamentaltruthsandrealitiesaboutpursuingandfindingyourpassion.

1)Ifyou'reyoungandfeelinglost,consideryourselfnormal-Earlyinyourcareer,whathaveyouactuallyexperiencedtoreallyknowifyou'lllikeornotlikesomething?Youcantry,butthetruthisyou'rehardlyequippedtomakegood,long-termcareerdecisionsyet.

2)It'seasiertofindwhatyou'renotpassionateaboutthantofindwhatyouare-Frankly,thejobdecisionsyoumakeearlyonaren'texactlybasedonyourdeepunderstandingofeitheryourselforajoborindustry.Instead,they'reusuallybasedonfairlybasic,superficialfactors,oronyourlimitedunderstandingaboutsomething.It'snowondermanypeoplearen'tagreatfitfortheirfirstjobortwo.

3)It'sallrelative-Offerthesamejobtotenpeopleandmaybetwo,six,eight,orevenalltakeorrejecttheoffer.Ineachcase,nobody'sdecisioncanbeconsideredrightorwrong,orgoodorbad.Careerdecisionsarerelativetoyourpersonality,interests,careerobjectives,andwhatyouenjoyandvaluewhileexternalfactors,likethesalary,title,jobdescription,andpeopleyouworkwithareimportant,figureoutyourinternalfactorsfirst,likewhatmattersmosttoyou,ifyouwantajoborcareerthatsuitsyouwell.

Inmyowncase,findingmypassiontooknearly10years.Duringthattime,IworkedinR&D;foratoycompany(Mattel),attendedbusinessschool,didamarketinginternshipforaconsumerproductsmultinational(Johnson&Johnson),wasamanagementtraineeforacomputercompany(WangLaboratories),andjoinedastart-up,ITconsultingfirm.Althoughallseeminglydisconnected,eachexperiencebroughtmeclosertomycurrentcareer,whichI'vebeendoingnowforover20years.

要想确定职业目标，最好的办法是多和那些从事于你目标行业的人员交流。坦白地说，这是了解某一岗位或者职业发展路线的最快也是最有效的方法。

例如，如果你对市场营销或人力资源感兴趣，那就去和那些正在这些领域工作的人交谈。问一问他们，他们喜欢工作的哪一方面，又不喜欢哪一方面？要想取得成功，需要有哪些关键素质和能力？他们的日常工作是怎样的？在工作上他们遇到的最大挑战是什么？他们怎么看待他们的岗位和行业的发展机遇？

拿我来说，虽然我最终去商学院读了个MBA，但是我本来是要去法学院的。当时，我想要一份人际关系导向、着重于帮助他人的职业，法律行业看上去似乎是个不错选择。事实上，我不但申请了法学院，还拿到了入学通知书。

但是，就在我等待入学的时候，我去找了很多律师聊天，结果发现他们其实都不喜欢他们的工作。我发现大部分律师的工作都不仅没影视作品里所展现的那样有趣，还大相径庭。虽然他们都喜欢学习法律，但是没人喜欢从事法律工作。我觉得我很幸运，因为在我全身心地将时间投入一个职业生涯之前，与这些律师做了交谈，及时发现自己最终不会喜欢这份事业。
